Series of new models with 16 international and motor show premieres

The 61st International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt starts in one month’s time where Volkswagen will be presenting a series of new models: 16 international and motor show premieres. The highlight is the debut of the Cabriolet, which manages to join opposites with its new roof system. In addition Volkswagen is presenting the successor of the Golf R32 and the new Golf GT, which marks the start of a new engine generation due to its dual charged FSI engine. Also in Frankfurt: new versions of the Caddy, Touran, Sharan, Passat, Multivan, Touareg and Phaeton.

Cabrio: The new Volkswagen Cabriolet can be enjoyed twelve months a year with a worldwide unique convertible top structure, presents thrilling driving qualities and has a power of between 85 kW / 115 PS and 184 kW / 250 PS. Its world premiere at the IAA on 12 September will be presented by Dr Wolfgang Bernhard, Chairman of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Brand.

Golf R32: The second generation of the most powerful Golf of all time is here: the new Golf R32. Again with permanent four-wheel drive but now with more performance: 184 kW / 250 PS. As in its predecessor the new Golf leader also presents its own distinct look and design. The Golf R32 has a maximum speed of 250 km/h and, as an alternative to a six speed manual gearbox, it is also available with a dual clutch gearbox (DSG). The “R32” then accelerates even faster: 6.2 seconds instead of 6.5. Today is the start of advance sales in Germany, the launch starts at the end of September.

Golf GT: After the Golf R32 and the Golf GTI Volkswagen is launching at the end of 2005 a third dynamic version of the most successful European car on the market: the Golf GT. Actually two new Golfs, because the new Golf GT will be available as a dual charged FSI-petrol version (TSI) and a turbo-diesel both delivering 125 kW / 170 PS Characteristics: more performance, less consumption.

Golf GT 1.4 TSI – the 125 kW four-cylinder is the most powerful unit of a completely newly developed engine family. It brings us the first dual charged FSI engines in large scale production. A mechanical compressor as well as a turbocharger give the 1.4 litre engine, a high power output and high maximum torque combined with low fuel consumption levels: only 7.2 litres over 100 kilometres. In the engine speed range of 1750 to 4500 rpm (!) it delivers a maximum torque of 240 newton metres.

Golf GT 2.0 TDI – Its new engine is Volkswagen’s most powerful four-cylinder TDI. Equipped with advanced piezo operated direct injection it offers maximum torque: 350 newton metres (!) at 1900 rpm. The diesel particulate filter is standard.

The Golf GT’s resemblance to its older brother the Golf GTI is no coincidence: sports suspension, exclusive 17 inch alloy wheels “BBS ClassiX”, 225 tyres, 16 inch brakes, distinctive bumper and radiator grille design, twin tailpipes, sports seats, sports steering wheel and charge pressure display.

New Beetle / New Beetle Cabriolet: The new generation of the New Beetle and the New Beetle Cabriolet will be shown as a motor show premiere at the IAA. Distinguishing features: headlights, rear lights, bumpers and wings in the style of the New Beetle Ragster study presented at the Detroit Motor Show. The latest New Beetle is an even stronger statement for people whose car says something about their attitude to life. More than 800 000 people drive the closed or open variations of the most well known and recognisable automotive design in the world.

Jetta: Parallel to the IAA Volkswagen is launching the new Jetta in Europe. With the fifth generation of the saloon the company is introducing at the same time a uniform name for all world markets; in Germany / Europe the Bora changes back to Jetta. It offers more than ever lots of space to travel. Compared to the Bora the new Jetta is almost 18 centimetres longer at 4.55 metres. It also has more space for loads: 527 litres of luggage compartment capacity (plus 72 litres) and it is a popular combination. For instance year after year in the USA the Jetta has been the best-selling car out of all European manufacturers. In Europe also, Volkswagen is positioning the Jetta, whose sales have reached the 6.6 million mark from now on more as a sporty and elegant compact saloon as per the US concept.

Touran 1.4 TSI, 103 kW: In the future not only the 125 kW / 170 PS Golf GT will be dual charged. The principle “more power, less consumption” will also continue to inspire the Touran. Namely in a smaller performance version with 103kW / 140 PS. Launch in Germany: 1st quarter 2006.

Touran 2.0 TDI, 125 kW: It makes the Golf GT a sports car, the Touran a sports MPV: the 125 kW / 170 PS 2.0 litre TDI with piezo operated direct injection and diesel particulate filter as standard. Its turbo four-cylinder delivers muscular acceleration. The international premiere of the Touran 2.0 TDI will also be at the IAA. Naturally this TDI is available with the dual clutch gearbox (DSG). On sale from December.

Touran Eco-fuel / Caddy Eco-fuel: From 2006 the successful ranges Touran and Caddy will include natural gas versions. The 80 kW / 109 PS multi-talents will also be able to run on petrol. The four natural gas tanks are integrated in to the rear in a space saving under-floor solution without affecting the interior at all.

Passat / Passat Variant 3.2 FSI V6 4MOTION: The Passat and the Passat Variant are available with a newly developed 3169 cm3 size V6 engine with petrol direct injection (FSI). It delivers 184 kW /250 PS and develops a maximum torque of 330 newton metres. Equipped as standard with dual clutch gearbox DSG and four-wheel drive (4MOTION) the top of range models come out in the fourth quarter 2005.
Multivan “Sport Edition”: The Multivan “Sport Edition” is another world premiere. Its emphatically design orientated equipment includes Xenon headlights, sports suspension, 18 inch alloy wheels, interior décor applications of brushed aluminium and exclusive two-coloured leather seats. The Sport Edition comes with five cylinder TDI (96 kW / 131 PS and 128 kW / 174 PS) or the V6 engine (173 kW / 235 PS).

Phaeton W12 / Touareg W12 Executive: with its different models Volkswagen cover a performance spectrum of 40 kW / 55 PS in the Fox up to – from now on – 331 kW / 450 PS in the Phaeton and Touareg. The performance of the new Phaeton W12 has been increased through modifications within the engine by 22 kW / 30 PS. At the same time the maximum torque increased from 550 to 560 newton metres, and is now available from 2750 instead of the previously 3000 rpm. The overall effect is an even smoother delivery of power. An equally powerful character can be found in the Touareg W12 Executive, newly designed by Volkswagen Individual. The exceptional SUV offers a level of powertrain technology and equipment with a maximum torque of 600 newton metres, which is unrivalled by any other off-road vehicle.
