The reason car manufacturers use monocoque designs is that for a similar vehicle they are lighter, stiffer, have better road handling, used less material, are more crash-worthy, are more efficient and are more cost-effective. Manufacturers also do not pay the costs of repairs, but they do pay for production and for the materials used.
